With the Marvin Harrison trade to Houston finalized, the Kansas City Chiefs briefly considered a deal. They brought back a familiar receiver who knows the offense and has two Super Bowl rings.

It was hard to imagine the Kansas City Chiefs being serious about sending any 2027 draft compensation to the Arizona Cardinals for wide receiver Marvin Harriosn, Jr. In the end, he went to Houston, and Kansas City arranged to bring in former receiver Justin Watson.
Per media reports, the former Chief is now back in Kansas City after signing to the team’s practice squad earlier today. Watson had solid success in Kansas City, and he’s familiar with the offense, Patrick Mahomes, and the culture, which could help him regain his status on the 53-man roster.

Following the Week 5 Bye, Head Coach Andy Reid announced that the #Chiefs have signed WR Justin Watson to the practice squad as WR Tyquan Thornton is expected to be placed on IR!

After successful ankle surgery last week, Tyquan Thornton could return in late December. However, he likely won’t be in the form he showed in the first month of the season, but Watson should be able to put up similar numbers. Like Thornton, Watson possesses similar speed and the ability to make the tough catches.

With free agent wide receiver Tyreek Hill still healing from surgery last year, he posted a video saying he should be ready to play in the NFL again in November. Even with Watson signed to the practice squad, Hill is in the midst of another civil legal battle in Miami.
So the Chiefs might want to wait until that case is settled before attempting a reunion with Hill. Either way, Watson, who is coming off a year-long rehab process himself, passed a physical, and he will be on the practice field Wednesday when the players return from their Bye week.
On Sunday, the winless Los Angeles Chargers will visit Arrowhead as the Chiefs hope to maintain their grip on the AFC West.
